"Sainsbury's Announces Investment in U.S. Food Chain" press release 28 Sep 1983

Press release announcing Sainsbury's agreement to take a minority stake of 20 to 25% in Shaw's (a New England, USA food chain).

Shaw's is a supermarket chain, which then had 41 stores in the states of Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Maine. As part of the investment of $20.1 million, two Sainsbury's directors were to become non-executive directors of Shaw's. The company was later wholly acquired by Sainsbury's in 1987 (see 27 July 1987 press release).
