I started at the Park Street store in 1965 when I was 16 years of age. I went to Blackfriars head office in Stamford Street for my interview. I then had a week training at Blackfriars, at the store I worked on all departments including the preparation room, I learnt to pat butter into portions. After 12 months I moved into the meat department and was trained by the senior butcher's. In 1968 we moved to the new supermarket store, I remained there until 1973. I left because Sainsbury's started to have vac-packed meat instead of carcasses. I really enjoyed my time in the company.
