Commemorative bell for Sainsbury's centenary

Extra large steel cow bell. A decorative leather cover is attached to a handle at the top of the bell. The shaped black leather cover fits over the top and around the front and back of the bell. It features a design of flowers and the inscriptions, 'J. Sainsbury 1869 - 1969', and, 'Farner Cheese Switzerland,' all sewn using coloured leather strips. The cover is topped by a pom-pom of red, blue, yellow and gold leather strips and two handles.

The bell sits in a purpose - built black wooden stand. The bell and stand were probably presented to J. Sainsbury Ltd. on the occasion of the company's centenary.
