Sainsbury Archive Logo
Blue, rectangular, cardboard sleeve. The sleeve holds a cardboard drawer containing approximately wooden safety matches with brown tips. The long sides of the sleeve have abrasive surfaces to strike the matches against.

The top of the box has a yellow paper label attached to it which contains the name of the product, 'SAINSBURY'S safety matches' and features a picture of a horse and a trap which, according to the caption below it, was used in Watford in the early 1900s. According to the label, the matches were made in Czechoslovakia.

Someone has written, '41 + 2 broken' in blue pen on the bottom of the box. This appears to allude to the number of matches in the box.
