Video about “Sainsbury’s Flying Circus” – a public relations activity using a fleet of promotional hot air balloons (in the shape of fruit and vegetables).

The video begins with a magician visiting Badger Farm branch in Winchester where he performs various tricks watched by the staff in amazement. He purchases a bunch of bananas, a strawberry, an apple, a bunch of carrots, and flowers and uses a Sainsbury’s Reward Card (loyalty card). He then goes out to a grass field where the items he purchased magically turn into Sainsbury’s Flying Circus hot air balloons. The ‘Flying Circus performers also arrive and an audience including Sainsbury’s staff arrive to enjoy seeing the balloons and circus entertainments. The balloons then fly-off. Tricks and comedy acts are performed in the air including a high-wire walk between two balloons, and the ringmaster fishing in a lake and picking up a packet of smoked salmon. A skydiver arrives back on land cheered by the audience to be shot out of a cannon back to a balloon.

Includes footage of: Badger Farm, Winchester store exterior and interior with staff; Sainsbury’s Reward Card; the hot air balloons on the ground and in the air; circus entertainers.

The video has an illustrated cover, showing a circus including hot air balloons in the shape of fruits, carrots and a bunch of flowers, and a magician with a Sainsbury's Reward Card. It is not clear from the video how it was used, or who it was intended to be watched by - it was perhaps distributed by Sainsbury's public relations department to support the 'Flying Circus' public relations activity in some way.

Duration: 13 minutes. Includes staff from Barnwood, Gloucester and Hereford stores. Filmed at Much Marcle, and at Sainsbury’s Badger Farm store in Winchester. Produced by Flying Pictures for J Sainsbury plc. Full detailed credits are included at the end of the video.
