Includes a booklet about Unilever and an annual report on the company's performance in 1986. Also includes a folder containing information sheets about various products manufactured by Lever Brothers, and a booklet about Imperial Foods Limited.
There is an illustrated guide to the Alimentarium Food Museum opened by Nestlé, a copy of 'Appetite for change: food and cooking in twentieth century Britain' by Gill Corbishley (English Heritage) and a history of Selfridges, 'Selfridges - The inspiration behind the experience'.
Also contains a List of members of The London Provision Exchange, September 1952 (Sainsbury's was a member).
There are also three letters concerning Tupman's Stores. The first, dated November 1907, informed customers that The Stores, Starcross would in future trade as Tupman's Stores. The other two, both dated 15 April 1932, told customers that Tupman's Stores had been sold to Mr W Burrows of Starcross. It is not clear if there is any connection between Sainsbury's and Tupman's Stores. The material regarding Tupman's Stores presumably came from the family of Edward Tupman, a Sainsbury's branch manager - see 'JS Journal' March 1995, page 28.
Also includes catalogue of the records of Charles Arkcoll Ltd put together by Kent Archives Office.

I would be interested in seeing the three letters regarding Tupman's Stores in Starcross. As my grandparents and parents ran it from the 1950's until the 1980's. Is there any chance in reading them please?
As for there being a connection between Tupman's Stores and Sainsbury’s, yes, there is. I used to help my parents stack the biscuit shelves when I was little and now I work for Sainsbury's Dawlish.
