Recording of the "SMART" network (Sainsbury's Management and Retail Television) business television programme by Sainsbury's Group Internal Communications for Sainsbury's staff. The programme was broadcast live on 24 September 1996. This is the first "SMART" network business television programme and provides a preview and introduction to the service. Presented by John Howard, joined in the studio by Sainsbury's deputy chief executive Dino Adriano.

Contents:
1. Introduction: John Howard introduces the SMART Network which would be watched by Sainsbury's store management teams, regional offices and depots (and from 8 October, the programmes would also be watched by staff at Sainsbury's Blackfriars head office). Programmes would include "It's the Business" - a monthly live news programme. Dino Adriano and presenter talk about the regional roadshows to present the company's strategy to store management on 25 September to 8 October - the first "It's the Business" programme will be broadcast from one of the roadshows on 8 October.
2. Video of focus group discussing the programme and what they want it to do - with Chris Cade (Store Manager, Pinhoe Road, Exeter), Kevin Keaney (Store Manager, Bracknell), Simon Naish (Store Manager, Horsham).
3. Peter Guildford (Northern Regional Director) is interviewed live from the Newcastle studio giving his thoughts about the programme, how it could improve communications, discusses the editorial group and how they plan to develop the SMART Network.
4. Video showing how other companies are using business television to communicate with staff, how business television is set up and operated using satellite TV, explains features of business television in other companies includes clips from various company business television programmes - BATV (British Airways), Sun Alliance, HTN (Halifax), and BT Salestalk.
5. Dino Adriano is interviewed about the benefits of business television, how it reflects company's cultural change, how it can be used, and company's commitment to business television.
6. Presenter explains how to contact business television.
7. Video giving a behind the scenes tour from the ITN studios where the business television programmes were filmed and broadcast from, and showing how staff contact the programme through a switchboard operated by Sainsbury's.
8. Lisa Baitup (Network Manager) is interviewed about the opportunities for the programmes, managing phone calls from staff, feedback on the programmes.
9. Question from Chris Sutcliffe (Dulwich) about how honest they can be with questions and answers, with reply from Dino Adriano.
10. Question from Pat Stanley (Truro) about length of programmes with reply from Lisa Baitup.
11. Question from Paul Loughran (Leeds) about frequency of programmes with reply from Lisa Baitup.
12. Conclusion with schedule of future programmes: 8 October (It's The Business Launch from South East Regional Roadshow); 30 October (Interim Results Special); 5 November (It's The Business); and 3 December (It's The Business).
