Recording of a report from the '6 O’Clock Show' television programme about Kensington Homebase store. The regional programme was broadcast on LWT [London Weekend Television - ITV weekend station for London] at 6pm on Fridays.

The report discusses the controversy about the architecture of the store. The store designed by Ian Pollard included features in the style of ancient Egyptian monuments, with pillars and murals containing hieroglyphics. Homebase/Sainsbury’s (which owned Homebase at that time) however were not happy with the design and removed some of the features and colourful decorations were repainted white.

The architect Ian Pollard talks about the architecture of the store and explains why he was upset that Homebase had changed the store. Gurth Hoyer Millar (Homebase chairman) explains the reasons for modifying the store. Two local residents also give their opinions.

Duration: 4 minutes.
