Video comprising footage of customer interviews filmed as part of Sainsbury’s campaign for the legalization of Sunday trading.

At the time the video was produced in 1992, Sunday trading was still officially illegal in England and Wales (with a few exceptions) but the restrictions by then were ignored by many retailers including major supermarkets and many shops were busy with customers on Sundays. This became a matter of public debate with one side of the debate (including many retailers) campaigning for a legalization of Sunday opening and the other side campaigning for the ban on Sunday opening to be enforced.

The video includes "vox pop" brief interviews with customers and staff at Sainsbury's Coldhams Lane, Cambridge branch. Customers answer questions along the lines of: "Why do you shop on Sundays?"; "How often do you shop on Sundays?"; "What would your reaction be if we were to close on Sundays?"; "Are there any negative sides to Sunday shopping?". Staff answer questions along the lines of: "Why do you work on Sundays?"; "How often do you work on Sundays?"; "What are the benefits of working on Sundays?"; "Are there any negative sides to working on Sundays?". The footage appears not to have been edited into a fully finished video (there are no graphics or titles onscreen and the interviewer's questions have not been edited out as in similar videos). The video begins with footage of exterior and car park of Coldhams Lane branch with customers and ducks. At 07:23 and 09:51 there is footage of the interior of the branch with staff and customers.

Duration: 17 minutes 45 seconds.
