Video produced for the Sainsbury’s Pictures for Schools scheme in 1993. The scheme by Sainsbury’s provided free prints of eight paintings from various UK art galleries to schools around the country.

The video starts with a brief introduction by Lord Sainsbury of Preston Candover (J.D. Sainsbury). This is followed by five episodes titled ‘Neil McGregor’s Choice’ from the BBC 1993 series ‘The Great Picture Trail’. These were presented by Neil McGregor (director of the National Gallery) who selected the Sainsbury’s Pictures for Schools. The episodes featured on this video included all the paintings which featured on the Sainsbury’s Pictures for Schools prints.

This video was given by Sainsbury’s to the schools which received the prints. The introduction is specifically for this video, but ‘The Great Picture Trail’ was also broadcast on BBC television.
