Video to promote retail management careers (store managers, deputy managers etc) at Sainsbury’s for graduates. The video is one of a series of graduate recruitment videos in various different parts of the business.

The video begins with a group of six recent graduates (played by actors including Huw Higginson) in a pub discussing their career plans – all are going into different industries. One of them Steve has decided to go and work at Sainsbury’s. They plan to meet up for a reunion four years later to see how their career plans were going.

The video then moves on to a documentary style of programming showing actual Sainsbury’s staff explaining the retail management career opportunities and benefits of working at Sainsbury’s. It explains matters such as: opportunities available; training; the work of buyers; skills required; career development and promotion opportunities; the profit-sharing scheme; responsibilities; and the variety of work.

It features: Michael Benstead (Customer Service Manager); David Quarmby (Joint Managing Director); Gina Hoy (Trainee Manager); Diane Livsey (Deputy Store Manager); Peter Sirman (Deputy Branch Manager); and David Clapham (Director). Footage is included of: store interior; checkout; training room at Fanhams Hall; store warehouse; technology (including computers) used in stores; store exterior (Stevenage).

At the end of the video it returns to the graduates seen at the start. Steve who went to Sainsbury's has just been promoted. He goes to their planned reunion. While the others have suffered from some disappointments in their careers, Steve has done very well and has an expensive new car.

The dramatic parts of the video with the six graduates at the start and end of the video are common to the series of graduate recruitment videos (except for the promotion meeting segment). Most of the documentary style middle section of the video however relates to the specific career area on the video.

Duration: 14 minutes.
