Video produced by Fred and Mildred Sainsbury (amateur production by a couple from Calne) showing the development of the Sainsbury's store in Calne, the store opening day and a comprehensive tour of the store. The video seems to have been filmed between April 1997 and January 1998.

The video starts with visit to the exhibition at Calne town hall on 23 April 1997 about the proposed development (some of the exhibition boards are shown) and a tour round the centre of Calne where the new development would be built. This is then followed by extensive footage taken over several months showing the progression of the construction work.

The video then shows Fred and Mildred being given a comprehensive guided tour around the store during work to set up the store before opening and the various features and equipment being explained. This includes the delicatessen counter, in-store bakery, checkouts, CCTV monitor, in-out board, staff canteen, warehouse, loading bay, rubbish compactor, backup generator, mosaic paving at the front of the store and sheep sculpture by local artists.

The opening day on 27 January 1998 is then shown. Fred and Mildred were invited to take part in the opening ceremony. This includes footage of: a band playing; Lord Sainsbury of Turville (David Sainsbury; chairman) talking to Fred and Mildred; cutting of the opening ribbon with David Sainsbury, Fred and Mildred, (the store manager?) and children; town crier speech; the first customers entering; a comprehensive tour round the store (newspapers, fresh fruit and vegetables department, chilled displays, delicatessen, bakery counter, frozen food, beers, wines and spirits, a grocery aisle, warehouse, loading bay, staff noticeboard, staff canteen, the plant room, various aisles, checkouts, the entrance area, office, the store exterior). This part of the video was filmed by Jon Cook (who seems to be a member of staff from the store).

Duration: 1 hour, 29 minutes. Commentary by Mildred Sainsbury, video camera by Fred Sainsbury (except for opening day video by Jon Cook).
