Recording of the 12th edition of "Retail Review", a news magazine programme for Sainsbury’s store management teams with reports, interviews with Sainsbury's staff, and video footage from stores. It was presented by Roy Sheppard.

Latest News – opening of Sainsbury’s new Watford store including the first Sainsbury’s pharmacy and new non-food products (fragrances, electrical items, jewellery); launch of the new Sainsbury’s TOPS (Total Oral Protection System) range of dental products; the Sainsbury’s Opportunity Day career event at the London Hippodrome. Footage showing all of the news items in included.
3. Report on ‘qualifying the workforce’ initiatives to enable staff to gain qualifications – a retail marketing degree at Manchester Metropolitan University and an NVQ (National Vocational Qualification) which is open to all staff working 16 hours a week. Includes interviews with: two NVQ trainees Ray Kilgour (Kempshot store) and Rachel Harwood (Bracknell store); Elliot Pilcher (Store Manager, Larkfield); and Nigel Broome (Departmental Director, Retail Personnel). Footage showing: the graduation ceremony for the retail marketing degree and two of the NVQ trainees at work all around the store in different departments is included.
4. Report on objective to increase sales. Neil Brassington (Instore Marketing & Promotions) talks about planning of instore marketing, changes to point of sale (POS) advertising (eg posters in stores), reducing the number and improving the quality of customer leaflets, the new ‘extended multibuy system’ (offers for customers buying multiple products) and display plinths. Dennis O’Sullivan (Sales Project/Merchandising) talks about how his project helps co-ordinate all sales activities, ideas by stores to develop sales, and toolkits (documents) to provide guidance. Includes footage of point of sale advertising, leaflets, display plinths, a staff meeting in a store, ‘M.A.R.C. Conversation User Guide’.
5. Colin Harvey (Chairman & Managing Director, Savacentre) talks about him leaving the Retail Director role to be replaced by David Clapham and his new role at Savacentre. The new Retail Director, David Clapham talks about him starting in the role, the special business units (petrol stations, bakery etc) now being included in Retail Division, success of the ‘Everyone’s Favourite Ingredient’ marketing campaign, improvements in the company, upcoming staff ‘roadshows’, and a message for managers (including continuous improvement, and ‘world class’ ‘signature departments’).

The footage in the video is presumably from Bracknell, Kempshott, Watford, and Broadcut (Portsmouth) stores which are thanked at the end.
