"One Shop Beyond" Savacentre television commercial

Television commercial (30 seconds) promoting Savacentre hypermarkets.

A brief article about the advertisement is included in JS Journal October 1994 (page 5). It describes the commercial: “The emphasis is on the shopping experience. A family sets off on a trip to Savacentre and encounters the adventure of everything the hypermarket has to offer, from Lego dinosaurs to fashion”. It features “hi-tech graphics and a sci-fi travel theme”.

The voiceover for the commercial is provided by comedian/actor Lenny Henry. It includes the music “One Step Beyond” by Madness, which is altered to “One Shop Beyond”. The voiceover states “This weekend instead of the usual parade of shops why not take your family: One Shop Beyond! Savacentre. It’s a little bit beyond your usual shopping experience”.

JS Journal states that the commercial appeared in all Savacentre regions and was created by agency Woollams Moira Gaskin O’Malley (WMGO). The version on this tape seems to be just for the London and South East regions as it mentions Basildon, Beckton, Gillingham, London Colney, Merton and Reading stores only in the graphic at the end.
