Shaw's is a supermarket chain, which then had 41 stores in the states of Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Maine. As part of the investment of $20.1 million, two Sainsbury's directors were to become non-executive directors of Shaw's. The company was later wholly acquired by Sainsbury's in 1987 (see 27 July 1987 press release).
