Sainsbury Archive Logo
Four videos containing unedited footage probably for use in one or more business television programmes for Sainsbury's staff (mainly store management teams) broadcast on the "SMART" network (Sainsbury's Management and Retail Television) sometime around April 1997. The Archive does not appear to have digitized recordings of any programmes broadcast during this time to confirm exactly how the footage was used.

Contents:
- Unedited footage relating to Express Shop, which allowed Sainsbury's Reward Card customers to scan and pack their own shopping using a handheld device and avoid queues at checkouts. The footage was filmed at Pallant Way, Locksbottom, Orpington branch.
- Unedited interview and footage relating to the introduction of category management filmed in an unidentified Sainsbury’s store. Category management involved managing a particular category of products as if it were a business including a category plan, customer research, deciding which products are to be sold, planning how the category should be displayed and promoted in the store and working with suppliers. The video features an interview with Justin James about category management including examples of how it had been applied in the cooking sauces category. This is followed by alternative shots of the interview and footage of various products on display in the cooking sauces aisle (which also includes accompaniments like poppadoms).
- Unedited footage filmed inside an unidentified Sainsbury's store featuring ready meals and the bakery department.
