Rectangular machine pressed glazed relief tile with brown floral borders. The middle contains yellow and white chrysanthemums and tan leaves against a blue background. A small piece is missing from the right hand corner of the tile. A raised inscription on the reverse includes the maker's name, 'M. H. & Co' (Minton, Hollins & Co.) and '43 W'. The tile came from 79 Angel Lane, Stratford and is a typical example of the house style used to decorate many of Sainsbury's new branches from the 1890s until after the World War Two. It would have formed part of a border surrounding central motifs of stylised crown imperials on the walls of the branch.
