Recording of "It's the Business" programme for Sainsbury's staff (mainly store management teams). "It's the Business" was the anchor business television programme on the "SMART" network (Sainsbury's Management and Retail Television). This programme was broadcast live on 7 July 1998 by satellite to Sainsbury's stores, depots and offices. It was presented by John Howard in the studio.

1. Introduction by presenter.
2. Studio interview with Bill Williams (Deputy Retail Director) about availability, and the impact of an incident in Drumcree on Northern Ireland stores.
3. Report about “Stockwise” project to reduce stock losses with Mike Goodman (Senior Manager, Stockwise) and other staff. Includes clip of a ‘Stockwise’ video ["Picking Up The Pieces", see AV/64] for depots. Some of the footage was filmed at Islington store.
4. Continuation of studio interview with Bill Williams, discussing “Stockwise”.
5. Report about Sainsbury’s Reward Point terminals with Penny Forward (Senior Project Manager, Customer Relations) and other staff. Includes footage of terminals being used by customers; checkouts with customers and staff. Filmed at Nine Elms store.
6. News update: Sainsbury’s Pet Club receiving awards; Sainsbury’s Bank Petcare Insurance to be launched soon; David Sainsbury launching an appeal for charity Crisis Food Share; Asda launching online shopping; Tesco to become an internet service provider (Tesco Net); increased sales at Safeway; Sainsbury’s winning Remploy ‘Leading the Way’ award supporting employment for people with disabilities; Sainsbury’s and Wye Agriculture College creating a new chair of horticulture (includes interview with Ian Merton, Departmental Director Primary Agriculture).
7. Report about phase 2 of “More Choice, Because It’s Your Choice” with David McNair (Director, Brand Marketing) and other staff. Various new products would be introduced in response to customer requests, including more healthy foods. There would be an advertising campaign including a TV advert to be shown from July 12th [see LSA/8760]. Includes footage of products and displays in a store (eg organic foods), customers shopping in a store.
8. Live phone-in questions from staff, answered by Bill Williams.
9. Continuation of studio interview with Bill Williams discussing World Cup medal collection and promotional material.
10. End of programme with preview of next programme.
