Sterling silver cup with an engraved inscription, 'SMITHFIELD SHOW 1951 THE CHAMPION PLATE Presented by EARLS COURT LTD for the Best Beast in the Show Won by MESSRS. J. SAINSBURY LTD.'. The cup features hallmarks indicating that it was made in London in 1921 by a company with the maker's mark, 'C & R C'.

The cup has a detachable lid featuring two gadroon borders and a gadrooned finial. Two scroll-shaped handles are attached to the bowl which features lobing on the lower third and is encircled by two rows of stamped decoration. The cup has no stem, just a wide circular base.

The cup has been mounted on a separate black two-tier turned wooden stand. A black paper circle is attached to the base of the stand.

The cup is accompanied by a square sterling silver platter with an engraved inscription, 'SMITHFIELD SHOW & AGRICULTURAL MACHINERY EXHIBITION 1951 Awarded to MESSRS J.SAINSBURY LTD. FOR THE BEST STEER OR OX IN THE SHOW ABERDEEN ANGUS "ELDON OF KINERMONY"'. The platter features inscriptions and hallmarks indicating that it was made in London in 1940 by the Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Company Ltd of 112 Regent Street.

The platter features a silver plated applied border of scrolls and palmettes and stands on four applied feet.

The cup, lid, stand and platter are held in a custom-made wooden box with a hinged lid and green felt lining. An iron handle and clasp, a cardboard tag and two stickers have been attached to the outside of the box.
